Remember, no school Thursday, Friday and Monday of this week. Happy spring and happy Easter! Report cards will be going home with students tomorrow. The fourth and final quarter of the school year is here!
Green Inventor Contest
Kate B.
Mr. Holmes' fifth graders are making inventions for a contest being held at Merritt Elementary in Mountain Iron. All inventions must be green or eco-friendly. Students said they were surprised at how many different fascinating creations kids have come up with. For example, Chloe came up with an invention that prevents your hamster or other small animal from escaping, and alerts you when they try. Alex and Maddi invented a rake that makes it easier to pick up garbage or leaves... (VIDEO - PAUSE) Fifth graders are excited to find out who will win the contest. Thank you to Chloe and Maddi for this story.
Social Studies Project in Mr. Erickson's Room
Tyler K.
In our classroom spotlight this week, Mr. Erickson's fifth graders are researching a social studies topic in order to complete reports. The time period covered for the topics are after the Civil War, and before World War Two. Some examples of topics are Trans-continental Railroad, World War One and the Panama Canal. Thank you to Tyler for this story.
Can't wait to see their finished work!
HS Students Read to Mr. Cremers' Class
Jason and Kamini
The fourth graders in Mr. Cremer's class had high school students come and read books to them like Hatchet and Holes. Some of the high school students brought small games to play or snacks for the kids to eat while they were reading. One group even got to dig prizes out of sand. Some fourth graders drew pictures of the books while they were being read to. The fourth graders really enjoyed it! Thank you to Jason and Kamini for this story!

????
Winter state tournaments are over, but basketball is one winter sport that is still going on. Several players from area schools are participating on AAU teams where players travel and get a chance to play with kids from other schools. Thank you to Drew for this story.
Great weather for those spring sports, that's for sure!
YMCA soccer
YMCA soccer is for boys and girls, kindergarten through sixth grade. It begins on April 12 and goes through June 5. It's great practice if you want to play soccer in high school, or even if you just want to get some exercise! For more information go to www.mesabiymca.com. Get out there and join a team!
NCAA Tourney
If you made a guess as to who would win the N-C-Double-A tournament, you probably guessed wrong! Many of the front runners were knocked out in the early rounds. The Final Four is set for Saturday, with Duke versus West Virginia and Michigan State versus Butler.
Wrestling
Fourth grade wrestler Caden Speiring has qualified for the state tournament! The meet will be held in Grand Rapids on April 10. Good luck, Caden!

Book Review
Alex S.
The book The Tail of Emily Windsnap is a good book it is about a girl who has never been in the water before so she tries out for swimming lessons and they call her a natural but she gets a bad cramp and does not want to go back in. She wants to find out what happened and she lives on a boat and goes in the water and finds out she is a MERMAID. Read the book to find out it is very exciting.

Website Review

Millsberry is a great website to see. At this website you can hang with friends, eat, sleep, shop, go to the arcade, or even be player of the week. Millsberry is set up like a town, and there are things to do and events to attend.
Note that this site is sponsored by General Mills, so you may see some advertising. Many kids think this is a really fun site. You should check it out!

ANNIE: Thank you, Michael. Yes, I can't remember a spring that came as quickly as this year's. This coming week looks like a wet one, though. Rain through the weekend, but the temps should reach into the 60s!
ALY: So it looks like it will be a soggy spring break! Let's head over to Meghan so she can give us this week's reviews! Meghan?
